There are a number of different ultrasound wave modes which can be capable of generated and detected by EMATs, such as:
- Bulk Longitudinal and Shear waves
- Rayleigh waves (surface acoustic wave)
- Guided Lamb waves
- Shear Horizontal (SH) guided waves
- Torsional guided waves
